Partnering Mishap.....

Last week the most embarrassing thing happened to me in my partnering class:
My teacher always picks a girl to show the rest of the class the combination he just made up and for the first time in a while, he actually picked me. I was amazed! And, not to mention, very excited. So, everything was going very well and I was doing well. Then, I kicked him in his privates! Very graceful. I was so utterly and completely embarrassed! I could not believe what I just did. I told him, “I’m so sorry!”, and he just replied with a quick, “It’s alright.” We just continued with the combination and every one was cracking up. The company members, my classmates, everyone. I was just thankful that my director was not there, watching. That would have been ten times worse!
I'm sure you've all had some little embarrassing moment like this.........let's just hope i don't have another one anytime soon.

Homeschooling?

Heyy,

Here is a video about three dancers in the Laurel Springs homeschooling group:

I have really been thinking about starting homeschooling because it would give me a lot more time to focus on my dancing. In the March 2008 issue of Dance Spirit, the have an article about "Ten Dancers to Watch Out For". Almost every one of them are homeschooled. Of counse another option would be to go to a ballet boarding school, but I honestly don't see that happening anytime soon. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!

YAGP??

Hey Guys,

A recent article in the New York Times reviewing the Youth American Grand Prix can be found here.

^Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev (Bolsoi Ballet competitors)^

I have really been wondering what exactly goes on in these type of competitions. Are they very VERY competitive? This is YAGP's website. These types of questions, i think can only be answered by a competitor. I have really been considering do this in a couple years, but I am very concerned about the fact I haven't been dancing for very long. But I suppose we will see....

Don't judge him by his tights

A recent article written by Sascha Radetsky can be found here .

I think this is something that most female dancers forget about. The fact that a male dancer is stereotyped only because ballet is supposedly only for females.
There is just no respect for them and I think that this needs to be brought to light.

First blog post!

Hey guys!! Welcome to It's a Ballet Thing!!
Hopefully you guys are gonna enjoy this just as much as I do!
So here it goes:

Welll..this summer I am going to CPYB ( http://www.cpyb.org/ ) , and I seriously cannot wait!!
My only concerns are that I won't get partnering or get into a good level. For those of you who don't know, you don't audition for CPYB, you just send in a form and then when you get there you have a placement class. One advantage of this is that they put you in a level according to ability not age. I have only been taking ballet for 3 years, but I feel like I have caught up pretty fast. After only one year i started pointe, while some of you may think this is a little too soon I felt I caught on much faster then, say, a 10-year-old. Well I just thought I would write an essay for my first post so here it is! =]
